Ocean core operating advantages
In summary of the advantages over conventional seaplanes, the Ocean amphibious and 'straight' seaplanes will:
-
Double wave-height capability to enable safe operations in common coastal sea conditions
-
Increase the number of usable tidal marinas and docks by a factor of five
-
Increase load capacity and cruise efficiency to typically double range-with-payload
-
Reduce the cost of seaplane ownership and life-cycled cost per seat-mile by up to 49% on tropical saltwater
The Ocean seaplanes are configured to reproduce the best operating qualities of both flying-boats and floatplanes, in terms of practical docking features, access/egress and loading features, and wide-ranging details and ergonomic features to maximise operator and user experiences. The Ocean designs are meticulously specified in response to extensive seaplane-user engagements including detailed studies by the most prominent seaplane operating companies.
To suit different types of operation, the Oceans will be offered with options for cockpit-managed actuated wing-fold and different power systems for water thruster options. Zero-emission primary power system options will be offered in all aircraft.
The Ocean features and advantages apply to all seaplane sizes and will impact similarly on respective markets for:
-
Ocean 2: 2 seat trainers and private utility and recreational aircraft
-
Ocean 6: 6 seat family / business / air-taxi / utility aircraft
-
Ocean 12: 10 to 19 seat single-engined business / commuter / charter aircraft to expand out the market currently filled by Cessna Caravans and single-engined DHC-3 Otters
-
Ocean 18: 10 to 21 seat twin-engined business / commuter / feeder / charter / sub-regional aircraft to expand out the market currently filled by Cessna Caravans and single-engined DHC-3 Otters and to serve the major hubs as feeder to and from international airline hubs
The Ocean 12 and 18 use a largely common airframe design and will be brought to market in a single combined programme.
